Utilising my skills – Majdolin’s story

Majdolin arrived in the UK from Libya in 2011, as a single parent with her two children. She was referred to the Restart Scheme in Folkestone, provided by People Plus, where she met with Employment Adviser, Nathaniel, who discussed her job goals and previous skills and experience. Majdolin had work experience in teaching assistant roles and expressed her interest in pursuing this as a career path - she had recently completed an ESOL qualification to support this.

Nathaniel worked with Majdolin to improve her CV, focusing on potential job leads she could tailor this to, in order to reach her job goals. They focused on Majdolin’s teaching background and explored the potential teaching opportunities which would tie in with her bilingual skills in Arabic and English as well as her general passion to teach.

“I was made to feel warm and welcome by Restart and the team, at the start I was unclear as to what to do with my career and what I wanted to do”, said Majdolin

With her new and updated CV, Majdolin worked closely with our in-house Recruitment Manager to actively apply for Teaching Assistant roles, and it was only a matter of time before she was invited to interview with a local supply teaching agency.

Since then, Majdolin has been working at an academy high school in Folkestone and a local primary school. She told us:

“I no longer feel alone or isolated from the community, and what made the difference was when Nathaniel paid an interest into me and my background as a person. He helped me realise my potential, and this has empowered me, giving me a sense of ‘I can do this’ attitude! This has also had a positive impact on home life with my children too, they are more supportive and believe in me and what I can do for them!”
