Upskilling – Michelle’s story
“Although I am still waiting on a conditional offer for one job, I gained two jobs!
“I was always greeted with a welcoming smile from Ama on the front desk and I was made to feel relaxed when attending my appointments. My Employment Adviser, Michael was very helpful and guided me through many job applications, showing me how to fill in forms manually and online.
“Michael really helped me to make my CV work, and together we updated it with the most relevant information. Knowing I wasn't confident in my technical skills, he enrolled me onto a ‘Digital Skills’ course, and this really helped me to become more confident with technology in general.
“With Michael and the team’s help, I gained so much confidence, especially from the digital skills course, towards my technical skills.
“Michael provided a tablet for me, which really helped me with upskilling and towards my job search. He was very helpful in helping me pursue my career path into care, and I am also now signed up for a course in counselling, so in the future I’ll be able to help others who have experienced mental health - as I have - with mental health support and life coaching.
“Prior to attending the Restart Scheme jobs fair, I was given directions to follow and a map. My navigation skills when reading a map is like looking at a bowl of spaghetti, however I called and spoke to Jayden, who helped and reassured me!
“When I arrived, they made me feel so relaxed and always enquired as to how I was getting on, not only that, but they pointed me in the right direction to help me find the right people.
“Using my new and updated CV, Michael put me in contact with the two job roles I have managed to obtain, one of them being from the last Restart Scheme jobs fair. I did all the work, but I really couldn't have done it without Michael and the team. I am so grateful that my Work Coach at Jobcentre Plus put me in touch with the Restart Scheme.”
Michelle is now working as a part-time, live-in carer, whilst studying towards her counselling course. She continues to await a start date for the second care working role that she was successful in.
Congratulations Michelle and best of luck in your new career!
