Turning dreams into reality – Ifeyinwa’s story

Hear, in her own words, how the Restart Scheme was able to support Ifeyinwa into her dream job:

“I was initially out of work due to immigration and an illness, and had only previously worked in the care sector, but I knew what I wanted for myself.

“I was referred to the Restart Scheme by my Jobcentre Plus Work Coach and told these were the go-to people to help me achieve my dream career. Despite not knowing whether they could help me, I was very excited to join. I was desperate to find people who would support me with my job search preparation.

“At my first appointment, I met with Employment Adviser, Junior, who was friendly, approachable, and a great listener. I immediately felt understood, and together we created an action plan with realistic steps that would help me reach my final goal.

“Junior regularly checked in with me and my wellbeing, and always kept me informed of any training opportunities. This support from Junior kept me going, as there were times, I felt like giving up.

“I attended several training courses at the Restart Scheme, all of which were very beneficial to me and my development. With these courses under my belt, I felt my confidence begin to build and I was more motivated than ever. Skills Trainer, Derek, really helped me and tailored each session to each of our personal needs. With all the help and support I received, I knew I wasn’t alone, and that Junior and the rest of his team were fighting my corner to help make my dream career possible!

“After further CV reviews and cover letter support, I was able to secure an interview for a lecturer role in a local college. I was so shocked, excited, scared, and happy all at the same time! I was supported with a mock interview by Junior and another Employment Adviser, Michael, and I was able to get critical feedback from this to prepare me for my real interview.

“Alongside this I was encouraged to enrol for a teaching assistants’ course at the same college, as this would help me in preparation for my interview and my future career, and I would also have a professional tutor to assist me along the way. With the help of the Restart Scheme team, I went to my interview with a positive mindset and gave it my all. In less than two weeks I received a job offer!

“My dream had come true. I called Junior immediately to inform him, and he was just as excited as I was. Junior helped me with vouchers to get some new clothes for my new job. I am so grateful to everyone at the Restart Scheme for the support and love they have shown me throughout my time there. Junior and the team have supported me through my struggles, elevating me into success!”
