Success through support - Isabelle’s story

After the closure of her restaurant, Isabelle found herself facing an uncertain future and questioning what her next step would be. Determined to create financial stability, security, and a better routine for her family, she joined the Restart Scheme with a clear goal: to rebuild her confidence and secure meaningful employment.

The Restart Scheme helps participants identify and build on the transferable skills gained through previous jobs and life experiences, enabling them to confidently apply for new opportunities.

Isabelle told us: “With the support of my Employment Adviser, Ibrahim, and the team, I began building my confidence and skills step by step. I attended training sessions that helped me with interview skills, self-confidence, CV writing, and my job search approach. From these sessions, I understood my strengths and felt prepared to present myself more effectively to employers.

“Through Transferable Skills sessions, I recognised how my previous experience could be applied to new roles. The key moments for me were the training on the use of CV360, where I learned to make my CV ATS compliant, and the mock interview arranged by Ibrahim the day before my real interview.

“My mock interview was delivered in such a supportive and encouraging way that it made a huge difference to my confidence and performance on the actual day. I was given a voucher for interview clothing too, which helped me feel professional and look the part.”

The Restart Scheme provides ongoing in-work support for up to six months, including help with work clothing, travel costs, onboarding, and any challenges that may arise, ensuring they are happy and settled into their new role.

“The Restart Scheme provided me with so much opportunity to explore alternative self-employed routes given my experience, and I completed several self-employment modules that gave me valuable insight into business planning, finances, and competition. Even though I decided to focus on career paths, this learning still helped to build my independence and confidence.

“With consistent support from the team, especially the impact of the mock interview and preparation, and my own determination, I successfully secured a job as a Learning Coach after two months of joining the Restart Scheme.”

Since starting her new job, Isabelle is overjoyed that she is now financially independent and has a good routine and structure for her family through working.

“This journey has helped me rebuild my confidence and shows how the right support at the right time can truly make a difference”, said Isabelle.
