Setbacks to success – Corey’s story

Setbacks to success – Corey’s story

When Corey joined the Restart Scheme, he was determined to find work and start saving for a home for his young family. At 18, Corey was eager to build a stable future, however he felt his lack of work experience was holding him back.

During Corey’s initial appointment he met with his Employment Adviser, Angela, who worked closely with him to determine the career path he wanted to pursue. It was identified that Corey didn’t have any right to work documents and had misplaced his birth certificate. Angela prioritised replacing these documents at no cost to Corey to ensure his readiness to work when the time came.

After a few appointments, Corey had built a CV with Angela’s support and attended multiple jobs clubs and employer taster sessions. As a result, Corey applied for a warehouse role which he was later invited to interview for.

Our employability experts provide tailored support to help participants prepare for job applications and interviews. Through mock interviews and practice questions, we build confidence and equip participants with the skills needed to secure sustainable employment.

Angela told us: “Corey’s commitment paid off as he was successful at interview and offered the position. I was able to fund his travel for the first two weeks of working and together we completed a Better Off Calculation to provide an insight on the potential earnings he could make with both full and part-time hours.

“This income will allow Corey to save for his own home - a goal he has and is working hard to achieve. Corey’s story is one of determination. With tailored support and his own perseverance, he’s now on the path to the future he envisioned.”

Corey told us:“I’m so grateful for the support my Employment Adviser, Angela, has given me. Without her help finding work and covering travel costs, I wouldn’t be in this position.

“My confidence has grown since joining the Restart Scheme and now I can pay for a bond on a home for my family and look forward to a brighter future. Thank you.”
