Securing success - Kian’s story

When Kian joined the Restart Scheme, he faced significant barriers to employment. At just 23 years old, with limited work experience and low confidence, finding a pathway into sustainable work often felt out of reach.

Working closely with his Employment Adviser, Daniela, Kian explored different career options and identified security as a sector that matched his interests. To help him take the next step, Daniela supported with funding and enrolled him onto a Security Industry Authority (SIA) course, a key requirement for anyone looking to work in the security industry.

Through one-to-one guidance, accredited training and direct links to local employers, the Restart Scheme helps people turn their career goals into long-term employment success.

Daniela shared: “Kian approached the training with determination and successfully completed the course, obtaining his SIA licence and opening the door to a range of employment opportunities. Alongside this, he completed several of our in-house skills sessions, helping him develop his confidence, resilience and workplace readiness.

“With his new qualification in hand, Kian continued to receive tailored support through every stage of his job search. We developed his CV, identified suitable vacancies, submitted applications and held mock interviews in preparation. By building on his strengths and showcasing his newly gained skills, he became increasingly confident presenting himself to employers.

“Kian's hard work and commitment soon paid off when he successfully secured a position as a Security Officer at a local leisure park. The role marked an important milestone in his journey, providing his first stable position within a structured working environment and allowing him to put his training into practice.”

Starting a new job is a big step, and our support doesn't stop there. We continue working with participants whilst in work, helping them build confidence, settle into their role and overcome any challenges along the way.

Since starting work, Kian has continued to grow in confidence and has demonstrated a strong commitment to his role. The success of securing employment and overcoming the interview process has strengthened his belief in his own abilities and increased his motivation for the future.

During his time with the Restart Scheme, Kian has gained the skills, confidence and qualifications needed to achieve his goals and take the first steps towards a sustainable and rewarding career in the security sector.
