Returning to work after redundancy – Scott's story

Scott was referred to the Restart Scheme by his local Job Centre Plus in May 2022. During Scott’s initial appointment with us, he expressed his concerns about this mental health after being made redundant due to COVID-19, and how this had an impact on his confidence with job applications.

Our Employment Adviser, Twinkle, worked closely with Scott to prepare him for employment, enrolling him onto several of our in-house courses that we knew would help him to become more ‘job ready’. Scott enjoyed an employability course which helped him with CV writing, and mock interview questions and preparation.

We then referred Scott to ‘Working Minds’ to support him with counselling and therapy sessions. Scott told us:

“The counselling and therapy received by ‘Working Minds’ was the most helpful thing by far, helping with the huge change for me, getting back into work.”

Following on from this course, we supported Scott with an application and interview for a role at a Storage Warehouse.

Scott has since started his new job role as a Warehouse Operative! He told us: “There was no pressure, I was able to wait for a job which was a good fit for me. My Employment Adviser, Twinkle, has been brilliant, by providing me with support at every step, since I was enrolled onto the Restart Scheme. Overall, I am very happy with my job position and excited for my future in the role.”

Scott’s Employer shared with us:

“We are a self-storage facility in West Thurrock and since January 2022, we have been searching for a staff member to join our team! We met Scott in April 2022 and he was a breath of fresh air! In my mind, Scott had the job within the first five minutes. Although Scott had other commitments which meant he couldn’t start immediately, we decided to hold the job for one month until he was available to start.”
