Rebuilding through knowledge – Dr Reyya’s story

Dr Reyya moved to the UK from Ukraine with his family, where he left behind his long-term career as a Radiologist. As a medical professional, Dr Reyya is passionate about his work and joined the Restart Scheme to receive support to continue his career.
During his initial appointment, he met with his Employment Adviser, Miroslaw who worked closely with him to create an action plan with an end goal of finding work in a similar role and sector. Dr Reyya told us: “Leaving Ukraine was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, but my priority was the safety of my family.”
The Restart Scheme can connect participants with local services, support networks, and resources that can help them to settle within their new community. Our Employment Advisers are on hand to help participants to navigate job opportunities and tailor applications to meet local expectations.
With guidance from Miroslaw, Dr Reyya’s qualifications were recognised and the team at Restart Scheme were able to help him navigate the UK job market. Dr Reyya attended several in-house workshops that focused on interview skills, job applications, CV and cover letters.
Miroslaw shared: “I tailored my support to reflect his background and experience, and with this, his qualifications were recognised, his confidence restored, and potential reignited. The Restart Scheme didn’t just help him to find a job, but it helped him to find a new calling.”
As a result, Dr Reyya successfully secured a role as a tutor in healthcare management, allowing him to continue contributing his expertise to the sector while adapting to his new environment. He said:
"Teaching has always been a passion of mine, and being able to contribute to the education of future healthcare professionals is incredibly fulfilling."
Like Dr Reyya, the Restart Scheme supports participants at all stages of their careers – whether they’re just starting out, re-entering the workforce, or transitioning into a new field. The Restart Scheme helps all individuals take confident steps into sustainable jobs that works for them.
We wish Dr Reyya the best of luck in his new role and for the future.
