Ready for work - Leyla’s story

At just 19 years old, Leyla joined the Restart Scheme seeking support to secure her next opportunity after her temporary Sales Assistant role came to an end. During her first appointment, she was eager to discuss her career aspirations and the type of work she hoped to pursue.

During her initial meeting with Employment Adviser Emma, Leyla explored different career options and was encouraged to consider a wider range of opportunities that matched her skills, interests, and employment goals.

Emma shared: "Together, we spent time identifying roles that aligned with Leyla's strengths, interests and personality. During our discussions, Leyla expressed an interest in returning to a customer-facing role where she could utilise her communication and customer service skills. This helped us broaden her job search and explore a range of suitable opportunities in her local area."

Through tailored employability support, the Restart Scheme helps participants recognise their strengths, build confidence, develop their transferable skills, and prepare for interviews. This ensures they feel equipped and ready to secure and sustain employment.

"The team and I identified a part-time opportunity with a local petrol station chain that matched Leyla's skills and interests. To give her the best chance of success, I supported her throughout the application process, helping her create a tailored CV and cover letter. We worked closely together to complete and submit the application, ensuring she felt confident every step of the way”, said Emma.

Just one week later, Leyla was invited to attend an interview. Having worked with Emma on interview preparation and mock interview sessions, she approached the opportunity with confidence, determination, and a positive attitude. Her hard work paid off, and she was successful in securing the role.

At a recent appointment, Leyla told us: "I hadn’t had an interview in two years, until I joined the Restart Scheme. With their support, I have had two interviews and got a job!”

Hearing this was incredibly rewarding. Leyla's success demonstrates what can be achieved when individuals are given the right support, encouragement and motivation to explore opportunities outside of their initial expectations.
