Preparing for work – Rikki’s story

Rikki was referred to the Restart Scheme by his Work Coach for support with moving back into employment, having been out of work for over a year. Initially, Rikki came out of work due to health issues that affected his mobility, however, he was eager to get back into work once he felt fit enough.

During his initial appointment with Employment Adviser, Leanne, they got to know each other and discussed Rikki’s transferrable skills. With previous experience in support work, cleaning roles, and factory jobs, Rikki was open to new opportunities amongst each job sector.

“Together we updated Rikki’s CV to a standard that would stand out to prospective employers. We completed a Better Off Calculation to give Rikki an idea of what he could potentially earn working full and part time hours.” Said Leanne

Alongside the support from our Employment Advisors, the Restart Scheme provide in-house courses that focus on CV writing, transferrable skills, and job sector taster days. The support provided is tailored towards the participants needs and requirements to ensure they have the right skillset to reach their job goals.

During his time with Restart Scheme, Rikki completed several in-house courses focusing on interview skills, application forms, and COSHH awareness. Rikki also made full use of the Employment Hub facilities, applying for suitable job vacancies and attending mock interviews for practice.

Leanne introduced Rikki to one of our Recruitment Specialists, who was able to give insight on a new driving role for a local business. With support from Leanne, Rikki made his application, attended an interview and was offered the job!

Rikki now works as a delivery driver and has told us how he is enjoying the role. He shared: “I couldn’t have done it without the help from the Restart Scheme, emotionally, financially and finding my new job position.”
