My dream job in teaching - Suzannah’s story
Suzannah joined the Restart Scheme with a career goal of working in the education system. With extensive qualifications, she felt it was time to find work in doing what she loved most.
Suzannah met with Employment Adviser, Tash, and together they discussed Suzannah’s existing and transferrable skills that she could add to her CV. Tash was able to support Suzannah in tailoring her CV towards specific job roles in teaching, highlighting her qualifications and skills in a professional way.
Tash told us: “When I met Suzannah, she explained how her low self-esteem and anxiety often put her off applying for jobs in teaching, as she had the qualifications but felt her lack of experience in this field was holding her back.”
For further support, Suzannah was sign-posted to Restart Skills Academy Trainer, Carolea who enrolled her onto several in-house courses to reduce her anxiety and help her feel more prepared to start applying for work. Carolea worked closely with Suzannah, helping to prepare her for work in the education job sector, and provided her with a one-to-one taster course in becoming a Teaching Assistant.
Carolea shared: “Suzannah completed a first aid course with us, and we enrolled her onto an external provision so that she could complete a level 2 course in behaviour, to help build her confidence in eventually going into her first teaching role.
“An appointment focusing on interview preparation and mock interviews paid off. To see Suzannah’s excitement and confidence when we found out that she was successful for her dream job at a local school as a Learning Support Teaching Assistant was amazing.”
During a recent in-work support call, Suzannah said: “Thank you for everything you did for me, without guidance from the Restart Scheme, I really wouldn’t be where I am today in my career journey. I have learnt a lot from the training sessions which will help me on the next steps in my career”.
