Meeting new people – Daniel’s story

When Daniel joined the Restart Scheme he shared with his Employment Adviser, Lindsey, that he didn’t feel confident searching for jobs, as he was unsure where and how to begin.

Lindsey spent time with Daniel to assess his existing skills and demonstrated how he could transfer these into a suitable job role. They began by creating a CV, highlighting all his best qualities, skills and experiences which would stand out to a potential employer.

Daniel enrolled himself onto many of the in-house courses available at the Restart Scheme, completing sessions in: Interview Skills, Mock Interviews, Transferrable Skills, Effective Jobs Searching, along with tailored support classes based on mindset, resilience, and self-confidence.

Following the completion of these courses, Daniel felt ready to begin applying for jobs, and by coming together in groups with other people in similar situations on the courses had a positive impact on Daniel’s confidence and social awareness.

Lindsey enrolled Daniel onto some of the Restart Scheme’s sector taster days, which give our participants insight into what employment in these sectors looks like and what sort of roles are available. Daniel took part in a taster day for warehousing and logistics, and another for customer service. From this, he began looking at various jobs in both sectors, and Lindsey assisted with his application for a CSCS card and DBS screening – all funded by the Restart Scheme.

It wasn’t long before Daniel was invited to interview for roles that he had applied for using his new CV. This was a huge confidence boost for him, and following mock interviews and practice questions, Daniel passed his interview and was offered a job as a Customer Service Adviser.

Lindsey shared: “We provided vouchers for Daniel, to buy smart interview clothes, and this really was a boost to his confidence. He has shown determination to find work during his time at the Restart Scheme, and I am very happy for Daniel starting his new job and I wish him the best in his new career!”
