Getting the ball rolling – Nicola’s story
Nicola joined the Restart Scheme with a job goal in mind, although she had little confidence in how to get there, she showed persistence and determination. After just one month of support from Employment Adviser, Leesa, Nicola found herself with a new part-time job in cleaning. Hear in Nicola’s own words about her time on the Restart Scheme:
“I was out of work for a few years, as my partner was in a financial position to keep us both comfortably, then COVID-19 caused my partner to be laid off and this eventually resulted in us separating, which left me no choice but to claim Universal Credit, which I did for over a year.
“When I was referred to the Restart Scheme, I didn’t have a lot of confidence and was very unsure what I was going into at the age of 54. My Employment Adviser, Leesa made me feel welcome and at ease, as we began to discuss my circumstances and work experience.
“I told Leesa I would like to look for cleaning job roles as I know that’s what I’m good at, this got the ball rolling! Leesa was in contact with a local cleaning firm, who invited me for an interview, and I was then offered the job!
“My experience on the Restart Scheme has been amazing, Leesa and the team have helped me to apply for jobs, given me guidance on interview preparation, and even helped to fund my travel to the interview and my first few shifts until I got back on my feet. Without the help of the Restart Scheme, I don’t know where I’d be now. They continue to support me even now, with in-work support, advice and guidance.”
