Future focused - Veronika’s story

Veronika joined the Restart Scheme with a clear idea of her future goals and the types of jobs she wanted to find to help her get there along the way. Aged 19, Veronika had little work experience since leaving education, and her goal was to save up and eventually emigrate to the USA.
More than a pathway to work, the Restart Scheme helps participants develop the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to succeed in the long term. From training and interview preparation to ongoing in-work support, the programme is designed to support lasting career success.
During her first appointment, she met with Employment Adviser Skye, who provided reassurance and guidance by discussing in-house training, local job opportunities, and the ongoing support available to help her achieve her goals. Skye told us:
“Veronika was determined to find work and was keen to start by exploring the hospitality sector. To support her career goals, I enrolled her onto one of our hospitality workshops, and she continued to build her skills by successfully completing several additional courses.
“When Veronika secured an invitation to a Discovery Day with a partner chain restaurant, the team provided tailored support to help her make the most of the opportunity. Through mock interviews and personalised interview coaching, she developed the confidence and skills needed to perform at her best.”
Just a few days later, Veronika received a call with a job offer!
The Restart Scheme works closely with local employers to match participants with suitable opportunities, provide priority access to upcoming vacancies, and support a smooth transition into work. By working in partnership with employers throughout the recruitment and onboarding process, the programme helps both participants and businesses achieve lasting success.
Within seven weeks of joining the Restart Scheme, Veronika successfully secured sustainable employment, taking an important step towards her future career goals. Skye and the team remain on hand to provide in-work support throughout her first six months of employment.
