From cooking to production – Gary’s story

Gary began his Restart Scheme journey as a qualified chef who wished to change his career. He met with Employment Adviser, Catherine, and together they assessed his existing skills which he could transfer into another job sector role. Gary had an interest in starting a warehousing role, and together he and Catherine explored how he could apply his skillset and adapt his CV to this sector.

Gary completed several Restart Scheme courses which are all free and in-house: Effective Job Search, Mock Interviews and Reboot your CV which brought his CV up to date and high standard, ready to apply for jobs in his new sector goal.

Catherine enrolled Gary onto an online introduction course for warehousing and logistics, which gave him an insight on what warehousing entails and what to expect from a role in this sector.

After handing out his new CV at job fair held at his local Restart Scheme office, Gary was invited to an interview for a local food supplier. This role stood out to him as he has a lot of background knowledge on the food industry from his previous career.

Catherine said: “Gary has now gone on to secure a job with a local food supplier as a Production Operative. He has kept in touch with me and the team since starting work and shared his progress with us that he is now a qualified machine operative. He still has access to our in-work support for further support and guidance should he need it.

“I am absolutely thrilled for Gary, and I wish him well for the future.”
