Four weeks on - Anne’s story

Four weeks on - Anne’s story

After more than six years out of work, Anne faced several barriers to employment including low confidence and difficulties navigating online job applications. Despite actively applying for jobs, Anne received very few responses. This left her concerned about her prospects of returning to work in her 50s and the continued lack of success began to impact her confidence and mental wellbeing.

Sofa-surfing between friends and family, Anne was determined to secure stable employment and regain her independence. Although initially unsure how the Restart Scheme could help, she quickly engaged with her Employment Adviser, Paula, and the support available, committing herself to achieving her goals.

Paula shared: “Anne regularly attended our sessions and maintained close contact with the team and I. Just four weeks after joining, an opportunity arose through a jobs club session where we supported Anne with her application and interview prep. Her commitment and positive attitude quickly paid off at the interview, and she was offered the role shortly afterwards.”

From mock interviews and guidance on answering common questions to advice on presenting skills and experience effectively, our support is designed to help individuals perform at their best and make a positive impression with employers. Through personalised coaching and practical preparation, participants can approach interviews with greater confidence and professionalism.

Anne was delighted to start her new role as a Care Assistant at a local care home. The opportunity brought financial stability, boosted her confidence, and marked an important step towards greater independence. Paula remained on hand throughout the onboarding process, supporting Anne's transition into employment and helping her explore housing opportunities to support her longer-term goals.

Anne is now focused on developing her career within the care sector, she told us: "The Restart Scheme has helped me to believe in myself again. I feel proud of how far I've come, and getting a job so quickly has shown me that I am capable of more than I initially thought."

Paula shared: “It was fantastic to see her confidence grow so quickly, she has made remarkable progress. Seeing Anne succeed in her journey has been incredibly rewarding.”
