Finding my potential – John’s story

Hear in Jamie’s own words, how he built his confidence and became job-ready with the support and guidance of the Restart Scheme.

“My Employment Adviser, Graham, has been such a positive support since I joined the Restart Scheme. I have worked with Graham since the start of my employment journey, and initially I didn’t think I would gain anything from the Restart Scheme, as I had been unemployed for such a long time!

“When I first met Graham, I was no good with computers or IT, and as I had no work experience or certificates, I found it hard to focus and learn as I had more of a hands on approach. To be honest, I had little confidence and hope. On the other hand, Graham had other ideas for me, pushing me to my potential, as he saw something in me that I never did!

“Graham helped set everything up on my phone, with job agencies for my job search and a new CV which we worked on together. I was enrolled onto Restart employability courses, which I never thought I would get the opportunity to do with my computer skills as they were, but there was Graham pushing me along and boosting my confidence.

“There were times I would doubt myself and felt like giving up, however, I managed to pass the courses and because of this I was invited to a job interview which resulted in me being offered a job! I’ve since completed my induction day for the waste collection role, and I have collected my uniform and PPE ready for my first day in work.

“I don’t normally send anything like this, in fact, I tend to moan a lot, but he has kept me going from start to finish during my time with the Restart Scheme, thank you Graham!"
