Feeling proud – Michael’s story
Michael was referred to the Restart Scheme after being made redundant two years ago from his long-term role as a Production Operative. He explained that the effects of unemployment were affecting his mental health and that he was motivated to improve this by creating a working routine again.
Michael met with his Employment Adviser, Alex, who he instantly made a good connection with when discussing job opportunities, goals and where he felt he needed supporting most. Alex told us: “Michael’s commitment to the Restart Scheme and finding work, was evident from the offset, his confidence continued to grow.”
Employment Hubs can be found at our fixed Restart Scheme offices, which provide job searching facilities such as computers, phones, local job boards and up to date labour market advice from our Recruitment Consultants.
Alex saw the potential in Michael and jumped on the opportunity to enrol him onto the Restart Scheme candidate pool, which allows participants to review and apply for new and upcoming job vacancies with local employers before they are released online. Michael utilised the in-house job club and completed mock interviews to boost his confidence in this area.
Restart Scheme works with Integration Managers to develop partnerships with local employers and services that meet changing participant needs. Referral pathways are available to participants eager to change career sector.
After working closely with the team, Michael felt confident enough to begin applying for roles with the Recruitment Team and independently. “Michael’s hard work paid off, and a local company was impressed with his CV and offered him a job”, said Alex.
“I was on benefits for two years and was beginning to lose hope. The Restart Scheme has really helped me boost my confidence. It has given me the opportunity to apply for suitable jobs, and I am really enjoying my new role in the industrial cleaning sector. I am proud of myself and grateful to Alex and the team, thank you!”
