Driving success - Chukwudi’s story

Driving success - Chukwudi’s story

After several years out of work, Chukwudi was referred to the Restart Scheme, determined to return to employment. With previous experience in driving and the transport sector, he had valuable skills but needed support to reconnect with suitable opportunities.

The Restart Scheme recognises that every participant's journey is unique. Through tailored one-to-one support, advisers work closely with individuals to understand their circumstances, skills, experience, and career goals, helping them access the right opportunities, training, and resources to achieve sustainable employment.

During his initial appointment, Employment Adviser Monika identified traffic management as a career pathway that aligned closely with his skills and offered a realistic route back into employment. Motivated to take the next step in his journey, he enrolled onto a traffic management training programme delivered in-house.

The intensive three-day course combined practical and theoretical learning, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills required to work safely and effectively within the sector. Throughout the programme, Chukwudi fully engaged with every aspect of the training, successfully completing assessments, passing the required tests, and meeting the medical requirements needed for employment.

His dedication and determination stood out from the beginning. By approaching the training with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic, Chukwudi was able to successfully complete the course and prepare for his return to work. Following completion, he collected PPE equipment that had been provided by Monika and was ready to start work.

Thanks to his positive attitude, hard work, and Monika's timely support and guidance, Chukwudi has now secured a role in traffic management and is looking forward to the next stage of his career.

The Restart Scheme continues to support participants for up to six months after they start work, helping to ensure a smooth and sustainable transition into employment. This support can include financial assistance, work clothing, PPE, tools, equipment, and ongoing guidance to help participants settle into their new role and overcome any early challenges.

Chukwudi's journey highlights how the combination of personalised support, targeted training, and individual motivation can lead to positive and sustainable employment outcomes.
