Creating my future – Paul’s story
When Paul joined the Restart Scheme, he was unsure of the job sector he wanted to get back into and required further support on how to begin his job search journey.
With previous experience in retail, hospitality and administration, Paul was able to compile a list of transferrable skills and worked with his Employment Adviser Catherine to create an outstanding CV. Catherine told us: “Paul had previously volunteered as a hotel receptionist, so he had both the experience of admin work and hospitality.
“He enrolled onto one of our in-house refresher courses in administration skills prior to applying for vacancies. In the meantime, Paul utilised many other courses here: Interview Skills, Mock Interviews and Self-Confidence which really had an impact on his confidence and approach to finding work.”
With a new-found confidence, Paul felt ready to begin applying for live job vacancies with his newly created CV, and it wasn’t long before he was invited to interviews. Prior to his interviews, Catherine arranged practice mock interviews with Paul to prepare him for interview settings, questions, and answers.
Paul shared with us:
“I have enjoyed all the courses at the Restart Scheme, they have helped me improve my confidence. I originally thought my age was a barrier, but after a discussion with Catherine who is also 58, I realised this wasn’t a barrier at all, and more of a mindset. I was happy that I overcame this and jumped into attending interviews and job clubs and actively looking for employment.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Restart Scheme, I appreciate everything Catherine and the team have done for me, they have helped me to create a future in hospitality which I love.”
Catherine said: “Paul has remained in contact with the Restart Scheme for in-work support, meaning he gets to keep all the support benefits we have to offer. Paul is loving his job, and I am so happy for him.”
