Childcare solution – Samantha’s story

Hear from Samantha about how her Employment Adviser helped her find work that suits her family.

“I have been on the Restart Scheme now for just under a year. When I first started, I was very unsure about how they could help me as I couldn’t see a way past the obstacles I was facing at the time. The childcare issues I had and the desperation of wanting to go back to work, on top of the inevitable mum guilt.

“I had previously tried other ‘back to work’ programmes through Jobcentre Plus and none of these were able to help with my situation. My Employment Adviser, Chris, was a breath of fresh air. He seemed to understand from the start, and he listened to the problems I was facing, constantly coming up with ideas to help me get back into work without sacrificing mine or my children’s happiness.

“Chris clearly explained the childcare I am entitled to and together we looked at any further support I could get, to help with the costs towards childcare. There wasn’t a problem that Chris couldn’t find a solution to regarding my job search journey.

“At my appointments, we were able explore job roles based around my hobbies and interests, and we even researched courses to help boost my experience and qualifications. Chris encouraged me to continue with the endless job applications, helping me to update my CV and cover letters, and I never felt pressured into applying for a job that wasn’t suitable for me and my family commitments.

“From the courses, financial aid, and the support from our appointments, the Restart Scheme has helped me see that I can return to work, whilst ensuring my children are looked after. After months of job searching and interviews, I’ve now landed myself an amazing job that is exactly what I was looking for!
