Caring career - Molly’s story

When Molly joined the Restart Scheme, she had a clear ambition: to build a rewarding career supporting others. Although passionate about helping others, her limited work experience made it challenging to break into the health and social care sector. With tailored support from the Restart Scheme, Molly developed the confidence, skills, and experience needed to turn her career aspirations into reality.
The Restart Scheme is about more than finding a job; it's about building a sustainable future. Through personalised support, skills development, training opportunities, and ongoing guidance, participants are empowered to achieve their long-term career goals, grow in confidence, and progress towards lasting success in work and life.
From her first appointment, Molly worked closely with her Employment Adviser, Kevin, to enhance her employability and prepare for opportunities within the health and social care sector. Together, they explored potential barriers to employment and created a professional CV that highlighted her transferable skills, strengths, and commitment to helping others.
As Molly explored opportunities within the health and social care sector, Kevin identified a suitable apprenticeship vacancy that aligned with her career goals. To help her prepare, he provided interview coaching, practical support, and vouchers to purchase smart interview clothing, ensuring she felt confident and ready to make a strong impression.
With encouragement and guidance throughout the application process, Molly approached her first interview with confidence and was able to clearly demonstrate her passion for supporting vulnerable people. To help remove potential barriers to employment, Kevin also arranged funding for Molly's DBS check, ensuring there would be no delays to her starting work if she was successful. Her preparation and determination paid off when she secured the apprenticeship role, taking an important first step towards a career in health and social care.
The Restart Scheme offers in-work support for up to six months after participants start work, providing ongoing guidance and practical assistance to help them settle into employment, overcome challenges, and build a successful future.
Molly completed her induction and has since started her new role, taking the first steps towards a rewarding career in health and social care.
Reflecting on her journey, Molly's told us that the apprenticeship has not only increased her confidence but has also provided a clear pathway for future development within a sector she is passionate about.
