When Ben joined the Restart Scheme, he was determined to return to work as quickly as possible. With a strong interest in customer service and account management roles, he had a clear vision of the type of career he wanted to pursue. However, Ben had childcare commitments that he feared might limit his options within the job market.

Childcare is one of the most common barriers preventing parents and carers from returning to work, and like Ben, many participants are unsure what support they can access. Our teams help clarify the support available, including free childcare hours. Advisers also explore flexible or hybrid roles and signpost local childcare provision to help parents balance work and family life more effectively.

Martin worked with Ben to create a new CV to gold standard, which he then felt confident in using when applying for jobs. Ben’s hard work soon paid off. After completing a successful telephone interview, he was invited to a face-to-face interview and assessment day with a local employer.

With the support, guidance, and preparation provided through the Restart Scheme, Ben approached the opportunity with confidence, and his efforts were rewarded. He was offered the job, full-time in a hybrid role that aligned with both his career goals and childcare needs. Martin explained:
