Career start – Taylor’s story

When Taylor was referred to the Restart Scheme, he had limited work experience, since leaving school, and had worked as a volunteer for three months with a local charity shop.

During his initial appointment with Employment Adviser, Andrea she was able to identify his future job goals through working together to complete an action plan. “Taylor was open to any support available and showed enthusiasm from the moment we met”, said Andrea.

When Taylor met his Employment Adviser, he was open to the support on offer, upskilling from courses and exploring other job sectors. Taylor didn’t have a CV to begin with and was unsure of what job roles he would be capable of with his skillset and retail experience.

Our Skills Trainers offer workshops and courses that help to upskill participants, focusing on CVs, interview skills, job applications and anything they may come across on their journey into employment.

Taylor used his time on the Restart Scheme effectively by attending courses, followed by numerous interviews. He took all feedback on board and worked closely with Andrea to prepare for his next interview, took the initiative with a smart appearance, new haircut and smart clothing.

Like Taylor, the Restart Scheme can support financially with vouchers to purchase PPE, interview or work clothes. This ensure that their transition into paid employment doesn’t impact participants financially, whilst boosting their self-confidence in the process.

“Taylor attended his next appointment with a spring in his step, as he was successful in his last interview and offered a job with a large supermarket chain, at a branch that was local to him”, said Andrea.

“Taylor is excited to start his first paid job in retail, and I will be there to support him through his transition into work.”

In-work support is available for the first six months of employment from the Restart Scheme, and appointments can be arranged on a frequency that suits the participant.
