Building myself back into employment – Kofi’s story
When Kofi was referred to the Restart Scheme, he was not in a good state of mind, following the loss of his wife.
Kofi and his Employment Adviser, Ejiro, worked together to create an action plan that would support Kofi’s mental and physical health, including a referral to a bereavement service. They also worked together to identify any other barriers that were preventing Kofi from working.
We supported Kofi to complete a Better of Calculation, to show him how being back in work would financially benefit him. Kofi also completed a course on digital skills to boost his confidence in using computers for job searching and took part in workshops for CV writing and how to effectively job search.
Ejiro told us: “Kofi’s job goals were to work in the care, or transport and logistical sectors, or as a driving instructor, as he was in the process of renewing his licenses from a previous instructor role. He had the positive attitude of ‘I’ll find work in the meantime.’”
Once Kofi had built up his confidence he began his job search independently, and Ejiro assisted him to apply for job roles. This resulted in Kofi being invited to an interview for a Care Assistant role with ‘My Homecare’. The interview went well - Kofi was successful in getting the job and was given an immediate start date.
Kofi said:
“I am happy I got the job, thank you for all of your support, and hard work to help me get here, I feel so happy”.
Following this call, Ejiro shared: “The transformation he has made whilst on the Restart Scheme is outstanding, and he has just landed himself a job which is amazing!
“Kofi has transformed himself, and is now very enthusiastic, committed, and focused. During his time with us on the Restart Scheme, Kofi has demonstrated resilience, reliability, and commitment, and we wish him all the best for the future.”
