Breaking through - Kobe’s story

Kobe was referred to the Restart Scheme, delivered by our partners at Northern Rights, by his Jobcentre Plus work coach, with a goal of finding work in retail, hospitality or catering. Aged 19, Kobe’s work experience was limited, and he felt this was holding him back when applying for work.

Our team of experienced Employment Advisers offers tailored support to individuals at every stage of their career journey. Whether someone is entering the workforce for the first time or returning after a long period away, we provide guidance, practical tools, and encouragement to help them build confidence and move forward into sustainable employment.

During his initial appointment, he met with Employment Adviser Amy who got to know Kobe and his background, interests and skills. With this, they began working together on a gold standard CV, that highlighted all of Kobe’s transferrable skills and qualities in a professional manner.

Together they completed a Better Off Calculator, which gave Kobe insight into the potential earnings he could make when working full-time.

Amy told us: “Kobe was determined to find work and used his newly created CV to apply for 40+ jobs. Despite the little response he had, he wasn’t put off and kept going. I enrolled Kobe onto several of our in-house courses that helped him in areas like interview skills, techniques and behaviours and provided extra support with mock interviews to practice.”

Kobe had his first interview with a well-known supermarket and said: “I’m nervous but thinking positive as at least I will have the interview experience.”

Kobe received a call just a few days later and was offered a full-time position as a Team Member. Delighted with the news, Kobe called Amy to share his success and was met with continuous support to prepare him for his new job.

Like Kobe, many participants benefit from financial support on their transition back into work. The Restart Scheme supports with elements like travel costs, vouchers for new suitable clothing, and anything that may enhance their start in work for the future.

Amy and the team at Northern Rights are incredibly proud of Kobe’s achievement and wish him every success as he thrives in his new role.
