A career change - Lucan's story

When Lucan was referred to the Restart Scheme he had previous management experience in the retail and publishing sectors, and had only been looking and applying for job roles within these same areas - without success.

During Lucan’s first appointment with his Employment Adviser, Christopher, it became apparent that he was ready to broaden his options when looking for a new job role.

Lucan took part in our Transferrable Skills workshop which helped him evaluate his existing skills and experience and how he could make use of these in a different work environment. Christopher also enrolled Lucan onto one of our Sector Taster Days, which supported him with his decision to go into the construction industry.

Lucan explained he had some family issues which made his financial and housing situation difficult. Christopher supported him with travel costs and vouchers for a new suit and shoes. Lucan told us:

“I felt confident knowing that I’d be supported financially, if I needed to start a job, I’d be covered for travel costs.”

Just over one month of being on the Restart Scheme, Lucan successfully passed a three-stage interview and now has a full-time position for a kitchen and bathroom supplier!
