Application boost – James’ story

James joined the Restart Scheme with a goal to work in hospitality already in mind. He met with Employment Adviser, Joe, who discussed his previous experience and existing skills and together they set a plan of action on how Joe would support James into reaching his end job goal.

With a background in hospitality, James was keen to find work in this sector again although he was willing to explore other sectors such as retail as another option. The main barrier that James faced was the lack of response to the applications he made.

Joe was on hand to support with his application process and began by enrolling him onto in-house courses: Reboot your CV and Mock Interviews. These sessions not only helped James prepare his CV to a high standard, but they gave him confidence in the application process, learning more about what employers look for in potential candidates.

Joe told us: “During his time on the Restart Scheme, James took full advantage of the support on offer, and with the help of myself and Employment Adviser, Abbie, we were able to get his CV up to date, highlighting all his transferrable skills and experience. We were with him at every step, providing guidance with job applications, and building his confidence on the overall job process.

“James attended multiple interviews and it wasn’t long before he was offered a job in his chosen sector.”
