Determined progress - Viktor’s story

When Viktor arrived in the UK, he was determined to build a new life for himself. Although he was still developing his English language skills, he approached every challenge with dedication, positivity and a strong desire to improve. As a Ukrainian national, Viktor had been out of work in the construction sector for several years due to the ongoing conflict in his home country, making his journey back into employment both significant and inspiring.

We offer funding to support access to external courses that enhance employability and skills development. This includes accredited and vocational training aligned with individual career goals, helping participants gain relevant qualifications and progress into sustainable employment.

From the beginning, Viktor showed strong commitment to improving his English, attending our sessions alongside studying externally on an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course. He practised daily and engaged confidently at every appointment with his Employment Adviser, Danielle, who shared: “His progress has been remarkable, with his increasing fluency significantly enhancing both his independence and his self-belief.

“Working together, we focused on strengthening his employability. We created a clear and professional CV, tailored a cover letter and explored different job-search strategies. Throughout this process, I encouraged Viktor to recognise his strengths and helped him build confidence in his abilities. To support him further, I issued interview and work-clothes vouchers so he could feel prepared and professional for any opportunity.

Our teams provide interview preparation and support that helps participants to feel confident and prepared at every stage. Through mock interviews, tailored coaching and constructive feedback, individuals develop the skills, confidence and self-belief needed to succeed in interviews.
