Confidence restored - Tracey’s story

Tracey joined the Restart Scheme, delivered by PeoplePlus, feeling disheartened and lacking confidence following repeated unsuccessful attempts to secure employment. She was particularly concerned that her 18-year gap in employment, spent raising her children, would negatively affect her job prospects.
The Restart Scheme helps individuals rebuild confidence and develop the employability skills needed to secure sustainable work that fits their circumstances. Through tailored support, participants identify suitable roles, strengthen job search and interview skills, and gain the confidence to move into work they can sustain and progress in.
Prior to her family commitments, Tracey had experience in the cleaning and hospitality sectors. With support from our in-house Skills Trainer, she was able to identify and clearly articulate her transferable skills. Through tailored coaching and mock interviews, Tracey gradually rebuilt her confidence and strengthened her ability to engage effectively with employers.
Employment Adviser, James was on hand to support Tracey at each appointment, and together they updated her CV to better reflect her skills and experience, whilst obtaining the necessary right-to-work documentation. Tracey completed several of our in-house workshops to build on her confidence and prepare her for applying for jobs. As a result, she felt at ease when applying for jobs in sectors she had previously not considered.
We provide tailored interview preparation, including mock interviews and personalised feedback, to help participants build confidence, clearly communicate their skills, and perform effectively with employers.
James was able to reach out to one of the employers we work in partnership with, who deliver roles and services in facilities management, which led to Tracey being invited to interview for a cleaning role.
“Tracey performed exceptionally well and was offered a cleaning position. She recently returned to the office to thank the team and I. Tracey said: ‘I never thought I would get a job, and now I’ve passed my probation period’. The employer has provided excellent feedback, describing her as a valued and integral member of the team.
“It has been inspiring to see Tracey’s confidence grow with each appointment she attended. Her renewed sense of purpose and achievement is a testament to her dedication and the consistent support provided by the team.”
